In this experimental platform, the anti-gravity calf-muscle group (gastrocnemius (Gas), plantaris (Pla), and soleus (Sol) muscles) and shank muscles (tibialis anterior (TA) and extensor digitorum longus (EDL)) were collected from four experimental groups of 8-week-old C57BL/6J male mice: i) control (without any treatment), ii) 5-days suspension-disuse, iii) 3-days LASSS pre-administration (about 50 g in drinking water/g body weight/day) followed by 5-days suspension-disuse treatment without LASSS supplementation, and iv) 3-days GSSSG pre-administration followed by suspension-disuse treatment ( n = 3 mice per group)
Neurological examination revealed improvement in all neurological indices analysed in a percentage of patients ranging from 11.9% (muscular trophism) to 29.1% (topographic score)
Nevertheless, it is not an impervious barrier, but rather selectively regulates what passes through the paracellular space
