Glutathione has many important functions in our body, but most importantly, it is the king (or queen) of antioxidants, which essentially means that it protects cells (egg/sperm) from damage due to ROS such as lipid hydroperoxides (turning them into alcohols) and hydrogen peroxide (turning it into water)
During cardiac stress, ischemic injury, and metabolic syndrome in the cardiovascular system, necrotic cells release DAMPs, which are recognized by pattern recognition receptors on innate immune cells, triggering strong inflammatory responses
