Partial plantar fascial release is reported to have a short-term success rate of up to 80%, but anecdotally this was not thought to represent our local experience . A prolonged recovery period and generally poor outcomes leads the authors to suggest that open plantar fascia release is of questionable clinical value and that patients may improve in the natural course of the disease, in spite of surgery. However, a May 2024 retrospective analysis ( 5 ) of 45 patients suffering from plantar fasciitis with bone spurs suggested that patients who underwent a four-step procedure, including plantar fascia release, calcaneal spur grinding, inflammatory tissue removal, and calcaneal burr decompression showed significant improvement in pain, function and bone spur size at 30 months follow up
